Aconcagua 2011
Come with me at my climb in January 2011. Enjoy the pictures below.
We started out from Mendoza in Argentina with a buss trip to Penitentes where we prepared and packed/repacked equipment and food. The day after arrival Penitentes we started our three days hike up to Base Camp (BC) at 4200m. After one rest day in BC we started our "moving" up to the mountain; up and down and up and down. Carrying equipment and establishing camps higher up. We established Camp 1 at 5000m, Mid Camp at 5300m and Camp 2 at 5600m. From Camp 2 we started out at 3am summit day, had a cold climb with wonderful colors and fantastic sunrise until we reached the summit (6962m) in a white out mid day. We enjoyed the summit for a while before we returned to Camp 2.
After a good nights sleep we started "clean" the mountain resulting in very heavy backpacks. One night in BC and ending the trip with a marathon: 42 kilometer out to Penitentes.
